We do not know what lies ahead for our country. Some would say we have elected a President that is too controversial, crude, and inexperienced. On the contrary, I believe we voted for change, not just a new popular champion. And, it looks like we got what we wanted. We Christians should all know that we are not to put our trust in Princes. And, to that fact, I don’t believe we have. We voted to change a political platform, and to uphold the Bill of Rights for all of us. We rejected an atheistic ideology and put in its place a platform based on Judeo-Christian principles. We chose a platform that believes human life in all of its forms, are of the highest value, and deserve our protection. And we soundly rejected an administration that truly, and militantly felt the opposite. Will this new administration be perfect? No, a man made creation can never be. But, if these new leaders humble themselves, and trust in God, America may indeed truly become great again. Also, the family needs to make a resurgence as a self evident bastion of strength. St. John Paul II said this best, “As the family goes, so goes the nation and so goes the whole world in which we live.”
2 Chronicles 7:14
14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Some folks in our country seem to be doing their best to stop this long awaited change. Political correctness has taken over and common sense has disappeared. Some American political leaders, as well as some of our allies, are singing the praise of a now dead, tyrannical communist dictator in Cuba! This week, a university in Amherst, Massachusetts, has actually banned the American flag from the campus. This act was placed in action to help bring about healing to people that felt uneasy about the message our flag displays…. Seriously, no one could make this stuff up! They actually removed the one thing that symbolizes their freedom to be that arrogant, and disrespectful to others. No regard whatsoever for the many thousands of people that fought and died under that symbol to protect their freedom.
Well, hopefully this kind of thinking and actions will go the way of the leisure suit and disco… We live in the greatest country on earth. We will have a peaceful transition of power, and then hopefully reap the benefits… Provided we sow good seeds.
We need to pray for leaders, even if we didn’t vote for them. We need to show charity to our enemies. The traditional family needs to return to America as a pillar of strength. Politicians can’t bring that about. For long enough now, the traditional family has been ridiculed and ignored. Just look at what has been coming out of Hollywood for the last 30 years or so… The change must come from each of us, in our homes. Families need to return to Church, and go sincerely with one goal in mind, to serve Christ. We Catholics need to attend regular Confession and go to Mass. The Grace we receive from God will do more for the family than any political change or platform. Men need to pray more, and the Rosary can be the greatest tool in our box. We have had these tools all along, we just haven’t used them enough. We do have a long way to go, to be that shining city on a hill. But, with God’s help, if we try to follow the Gospel, we can make it happen.
Glory Be to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, it is now and ever shall be, a world without end. Amen.
